Forum On Census 2001 And Ethnic Origin

Ottawa, April 17, 2001. Census 2001 will begin on May. The Canadian Ethnocultural Council in cooperation with the Association for Canadian Studies are conducting a series of information sessions to help individuals understand importance of completing the census. The sessions will focus on the several census questions touching on issues of identity.

Jack Jedwab Executive Director of the Association for Canadian Studies will provide an overview of the significance of these questions and the kind of information they provide on Canada's diverse population. "It is important that the public understand the value and significance of the information gathered through the Census" said Art Hagopian, President of the Canadian Ethnocultural Council. "Completing the census contributes to the strengthening of our democracy." The information sessions will be held at the following locations:

Winnipeg: Thursday, April 19, 2001, 11:30 am to 1:30 pm

National Association of Japanese Canadians, Boardroom, 404 Webb Place

Toronto: Friday, April 20, 2001, 12:00 noon to 1:30 pm Ontario

Calgary: Friday, April 27, 2001, 12:00 noon to 2:00 pm

Vancouver: Saturday , April 21, 2001, 10:00 am to 12: noon
